How it is calculated
The tip is added to the bill, and then the total is split evenly. A service charge that is already on the bill is not added a second time.
Tip = bill × percent / 100
Where the numbers come from
- Bill
- Tip — unit in the field: %
- Person
Example
A bill of 1 000 currency units, a 10% tip, two people. The tip is 100, the total 1 100, and 550 currency units each.
Questions
Can I skip dividing by people?
Enter one person: the share will match the total.
Is the tip taken before or after the discount?
From the amount you entered as the bill. If a discount is already applied, enter the price after it.
Can the percent be zero?
Yes. The tip is then zero, and each person pays an even share of the bill.
