Cylinder volume

For a tank, a pipe, and a can. The radius is half the inside diameter when you want the volume of the liquid.

How it is calculated

Volume is the base area, πr², times the height. The lateral surface is a rectangle of length 2πr and width h. The total surface adds one circle on top and one underneath.

V = πr²h

Where the numbers come from

  • Radius
  • Height

Example

Radius 2, height 5. Volume π × 4 × 5 ≈ 62,83.

Questions

How do I calculate a pipe, not a solid cylinder?

Work out the volume from the outer radius and subtract the volume from the inner one. The calculator handles one cylinder at a time.

Height and radius in different units?

Bring them to one unit, or the volume will be meaningless.

Is this the volume of liquid in a barrel?

Yes, if the barrel is filled to the height you entered and the walls do not narrow.
