How it is calculated
The Devine, Robinson, Miller, and Hamwi formulas estimate weight from a height above 5 feet. They were historically used for doses, not as a target for the bathroom scale. The calculator turns pounds into kilograms.
Devine, men: 50 kg + 2,3 kg for each inch above 5 feet
Where the numbers come from
- Height — unit in the field: cm
- Sex
Example
A man 180 cm tall. The formulas differ by a few kilograms, and the whole spread is on the screen.
Questions
Which formula should I trust?
None of them on its own. If all four lie close together, that is a guide. They do not measure body composition.
Why is there a note for a short height?
Below 5 feet (152,4 cm) the formulas are extrapolated and can drift into odd numbers.
Is this the same BMI?
No. BMI uses the weight you actually have. Here weight is only guessed from height.
