How it is calculated
Unlike resistors, capacitors wired in parallel raise the capacitance. This screen does not check the voltage rating or the polarity.
In parallel C = C1 + C2, in series 1/C = 1/C1 + 1/C2
Where the numbers come from
- Connection
- First
- Second
- Third
Example
Two capacitors of 10 µF in parallel give 20 µF. In series they give 5 µF.
Questions
Microfarads or nanofarads?
What you enter is what comes out. Do not mix the units together.
Can I leave the third one blank?
Yes.
Can electrolytic capacitors be added with the formula?
The arithmetic of capacitance is the same. Read polarity and the voltage limit on the case.
