Pizza calculator

A large pizza is often cheaper per centimetre, even when the bill is higher. The calculator compares area, not how thick the rim is.

Clear both fields of the second pizza if there is nothing to compare.

How it is calculated

Area is π × (diameter / 2)². The price is divided by that area. The better value is the one with fewer currency units per square centimetre. The second pizza may be left blank. Then only the first pizza’s price per centimetre remains.

Price per 1 cm² = price / (π × radius²)

Where the numbers come from

  • First diameter — unit in the field: cm
  • Price of the first
  • Second diameter — Clear both fields of the second pizza if there is nothing to compare.
  • Price of the second

Example

A 30 cm pizza at 600 currency units and a 40 cm pizza at 900 currency units. Areas compare as the squares of the diameters. The 40 cm one is noticeably more food, and its price per centimetre is lower.

Questions

Diameter in centimeters?

Yes, as on a menu. 12 inches is 30,48 cm, and you can convert that in the length converter.

Two medium pizzas or one large?

Treat two medium pizzas as one “price” and compare their combined area with one large pizza. The calculator compares two items, not three.

Is the topping the same?

The formula does not check for that. An unusual topping can cost more even when each centimetre is cheap.
