How it is calculated

On the grid, tiles along a wall are the length divided by one tile plus the joint, rounded up. By area, waste is added to the square metres and the result is divided by the area of one tile. A diagonal layout wants an allowance closer to 15%.

Along the wall = round up(length / (tile + joint))

Where the numbers come from

  • Room length — unit in the field: m
  • Room width — unit in the field: m
  • Tile length — unit in the field: cm
  • Tile width — unit in the field: cm
  • Joint — unit in the field: mm
  • Waste for cuts — unit in the field: %

Example

A 1×1 m floor, 50×50 cm tile with no grout. The grid gives 2 × 2 = 4 tiles.

Questions

Which number should I buy?

Take the larger of the two if the walls will need cutting. The grid does not know an offset pattern.

Is a 2 mm joint the default?

Yes. Enter 0 if the tile is laid with no gap.

Are adhesive and grout included?

No. Only the tile count and the floor area are here.
