Laminate calculator

It multiplies the area by the waste and divides by the metres in a pack. A straight lay usually wants about 8%.

How it is calculated

The allowance covers cuts at the walls and damaged pieces. For a diagonal lay, allow 12–15% instead of 8%. What remains after rounding up to a whole pack is shown as well. Part of it will be used in the cuts.

Packs = round up(area × (1 + waste) / metres per pack)

Where the numbers come from

  • Room area — unit in the field: m²
  • Meters per pack — unit in the field: m²
  • Waste — unit in the field: %

Example

18 m², 2,2 m² per pack, 8% waste. You need 19,44 m², which is 9 packs.

Questions

Is the underlay included?

No. It is taken from the floor area of the room, usually without the same waste as the boards.

Niches and columns?

Take them off the area first. Or add them, if you are cutting around something awkward and want a larger allowance.

Can I enter the area of one board, not of the pack?

The field expects the metres in one pack, as printed on the price tag. If you only know one board, multiply its area by how many boards are in the pack.
