How it is calculated
The mean is the sum of the marks divided by how many there are. Weighted mode is for courses worth different credits: the line “5; 3” means a mark of 5 with a weight of 3. The calculator does not confirm an honours award. Institutions differ on the share of top marks and on coursework.
Average grade = sum of grades / count
Where the numbers come from
- Type
- Grades — With weights, write “grade; weight”.
Example
Marks of 5, 4, 5, 3, 4. The sum is 21 and the mean is 4,2. Two fives, two fours, and one three.
Questions
Do pass/fail marks count?
Only if you assigned them a number yourself. A pass with no grade is usually left out of the mean.
Can I use a 100-point scale?
Yes. The tally “how many fives” appears only when every number is an integer from 2 to 5.
Rounding to hundredths?
The screen keeps up to four digits, and spare zeros are dropped. For an official transcript, check your own institution’s rule.
