How it is calculated
A plain mean is the sum divided by the count. A weighted mean multiplies each value by its weight, adds those products, and divides by the sum of the weights. A comma inside a number is the decimal mark. Separate the weight with a semicolon.
Weighted mean = Σ(value × weight) / Σ weight
Where the numbers come from
- Type
- Numbers — For weighted mode: value; weight
Example
The numbers 2, 4, and 9. Sum 15, mean 5. Weighted, a 5 with weight 1 and a 3 with weight 3 give (5 + 9) / 4 = 3,5.
Questions
How do I separate the weight?
The line “4,5; 2” means a value of 4,5 and a weight of 2.
Do blank lines get in the way?
No, they are skipped.
Is this the median?
No. The median is the middle value after sorting. What is calculated here is the mean.
