Sand and gravel

The default is 1600 kg/m³, like dry sand in a middle estimate.

m³
kg/m³

How it is calculated

Wet sand is heavier. Crushed stone in a heap is often around 1400–1600 kg/m³. Use the density on the delivery note when you have one.

kg = volume × density

Where the numbers come from

  • Volume — unit in the field: m³
  • Bulk density — unit in the field: kg/m³

Example

2 m³ at 1600 kg/m³ is 3200 kg, or 3,2 t.

Questions

Loose volume in the truck, or solid volume?

Whichever you measured. Loose volume and compacted volume are not equal.

How do I get volume from mass?

Divide the kilograms by the density.

Expanded clay?

Yes, if you enter its bulk density. It is well below 1600.
