How it is calculated
A ribbed bar differs a little from a smooth cylinder of the same nominal diameter. For a materials estimate that is usually enough.
kg = L × π/4 × (d/1000)² × 7850
Where the numbers come from
- Diameter — unit in the field: mm
- Rod length — unit in the field: m
- Rods
Example
A 12 mm rod 10 m long weighs about 8,88 kg.
Questions
Diameter in millimeters?
Yes, the length is in meters.
Several diameters?
Calculate each one and add the kilograms.
Fiberglass?
It has a different density, and 7850 does not fit it.
