How it is calculated
Diameters are in millimetres and length is in metres. Stainless steel and aluminium have another density.
kg = L × π/4 × (D² − d²) × 7850
Where the numbers come from
- Outside diameter — unit in the field: mm
- Wall — unit in the field: mm
- Length — unit in the field: m
Example
A pipe of 57×3,5 mm, 1 m long, weighs about 4,62 kg.
Questions
Inside diameter instead of wall thickness?
Subtract it from the outside size and divide by two — that is the wall.
A rectangular tube?
No, the cross-section here is round.
A pipe seam?
It is not added to the mass.
