GFR calculator

It estimates kidney filtration in adults from age, sex, and creatinine. It is not a diagnosis.

years
Sex
Creatinine units

How it is calculated

The CKD-EPI 2021 creatinine equation is used. Creatinine in µmol/L is divided by 88,4 to give mg/dL. The result is rounded to a whole number, as on a lab form, and it is labelled G1–G5 from the filtration figure alone.

eGFR = 142 × min(Scr/κ, 1)^α × max(Scr/κ, 1)^(−1,2) × 0,9938^age

Where the numbers come from

  • Age — unit in the field: years
  • Sex
  • Creatinine
  • Creatinine units

Example

A man of 50, creatinine 0,9 mg/dL. At the boundary of the coefficient the equation gives 142 × 0,9938^50.

Questions

Is this a diagnosis of kidney disease?

No. Chronic kidney disease is decided from repeat tests and from urine albumin. One calculator is not enough for that.

Which creatinine units?

The default is µmol/L, as on Russian lab forms. You can switch to mg/dL.

Suitable for children?

No. The equation on this screen is for ages from 18 years.
