How it is calculated
The bases are square and parallel. Rectangular bases with sides that differ use another formula.
V = h / 3 × (a² + ab + b²)
Where the numbers come from
- Lower side
- Upper side
- Height
Example
Bottom side 4, top side 2, height 3. Volume 3 / 3 × (16 + 8 + 4) = 28.
Questions
An upper side of 0?
You get the volume of an ordinary pyramid with a square base.
Is the height diagonal?
No, the height is the perpendicular between the bases.
Volume units?
If the sides are in meters, the volume is in cubic meters.
